Apple is readying two even newer additions to its iPad range for an imminent release, an analyst familiar with the iMaker?s plans has revealed.
Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets has apparently scooped from last week?s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas that the fifth-generation iPad and the successor to the iPad mini will be launched in March, merely five months after the latest editions hit shop shelves.
In a research note to investors, White said: "Our checks at CES indicate Apple will release the iPad 5 and the second-generation iPad mini this March,? adding that ?the iPad 5 is expected to be lighter and thinner than the iPad 4 that was released in October, while the form factor of the iPad mini should be similar to the first generation iPad mini that debuted in October.?
Meanwhile, supply chain gossip suggests the iPad mini sequel will be equipped with a Retina display, with Shenzhen Century Science & Technology (SCST), a subsidiary of Foxconn, on manufacturing detail.
According to a China Times report, Apple is said to be considering a new display tech called One-Glass Solution (OGS) that enables a higher pixel density, while keeping thickness to a minimum by combining the touch sensor and the cover glass into a single layer.
Although Apple typically launches new iPads in March, it broke tradition by launching the iPad mini and the iPad 4 in November. Assuming the intel above is correct, it?s looking increasingly likely that iPads may well go the way of Macbooks, with a new version released every six months.
