The Real Estate Council has issued its endorsements for the coming City Council races.
In the hotly contested District 13 race, Jennifer Staubach Gates got the nod over Leland Burk.
And in the race for the District 14 seat, Bobby Abtahi can add to council to his impressive list of endorsements, including former council members and ?Car-Free? Patrick Kennedy among others.
The council also picked Delia Jasso over Scott Griggs in the District 1 race ? the only race where two incumbents face each other.
?We were encouraged to see such a strong pool of candidates running for Dallas City Council and Dallas ISD school board,? said Linda McMahon, president and CEO of The Real Estate Council. ?It takes a selfless and courageous person to decide to run for any public office, and we applaud each of the candidates for their passion and commitment to improving our city.?

LONDON (Reuters) - The situation in the euro zone has shown the difficulties of operating a single currency across several countries, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said on Monday.
"There is a basic question - what is the right size for a single monetary policy?" Bernanke said in response to a question at a panel discussion in London.
While some aspects of the euro zone were optimal, including the credibility of its central bank to deliver low inflation, there were also differences across countries in terms of competitiveness and their different stages in the economic cycle, he said.
"So I think it is a mixed picture," Bernanke said.

Between 2006 and 2011 nearly 60% of Syria experienced the worst drought ever, turning much of the country?s farmland into barren dust bowls, and resulting in a series of severe crop failures.
Due to the devastating drought and subsequent lack of food and water in rural areas hundreds of thousands fled to the cities, where existing problems were only exacerbated by the influx of new mouths to feed.

Okay, so it's been a while since I've roleplayed on a public website, and to be honest, my idea pool's a little dried up. But I just know I really really want to get back in the game again.
I have one idea, but it's something I'm a little reluctant to do: a Game of Thrones theme (since it's my current obsession) with the same universe, same laws, religions, creatures, houses, but with all-new characters and storylines. My issue with this is that (1) This has probably already been done before. (2) Creating completely new and original characters and stories may be a bit difficult and I'm just scared of it coming too close to rewriting the original story just with different names attached. (3) This is kind of more personal, but since I've only really watched the series and just started the first book, I'd rather not have 'real fans' (book readers) coming at me and saying 'OMG UR NOT A REAL FAN U HAVENT READ THE BOOKS U HAVE NO RIGHT DOING THIS !!1!11!1' or whatever - pretty much how a good number of The Hunger Games fandom are.
But yeah, I'd like to hear what you fine fellows are interested in. The plots I usually do are along the lines of fantasy/supernatural/dystopian/romance type things, so if anyone has any ideas for plots like that or want to help me broaden my roleplaying horizons, I would be truly grateful.

In Robert A. Heinlein's science-fiction novel, The Cat Who Walks Through Walls, one of the characters states that butterflies are just "self-propelled flowers." While Heinlein's description of the insect's aerodynamic ability is quite poetic, it does little to scientifically explain it. Four Japanese researchers have done a bit better by developing sophisticated numerical simulations of a butterfly's forward flight. In a paper in the American Institute of Physics' journal Physics of Fluids, the researchers describe how they mathematically modeled a butterfly as a four-link rigid-body system consisting of a thorax (the segment of the insect to which the wings are attached), an abdomen, and the two wings.
Using data from observations of butterfly flight in wind tunnels, the researchers conducted three different types of simulations with their model that were defined by the position and attitude of the thorax: tethered (where the thorax is fixed), prescribed (where the thorax is programmed to move in an expected manner) and free-flight (where the thorax movement is unrestricted). They found that their mathematical butterfly did as predicted make use of the tiny, swirling vortices that form in the direction of travel during a downward flap, pushing air down and providing lift. However, they also observed that the flow around the butterfly is much more turbulent than expected. This turbulent flow triggers the complex trajectories characteristic to the flights of butterflies that may be one of the strategies by which the insects avoid predators.
Finally, the researchers determined that the pitching angle of the thorax is the key to controlled periodic flight, noting that living butterflies likely can continually sense the attitude of their thorax and adjust their flapping motion accordingly to ensure stability. The researchers state that their future work will focus on identifying the mechanism by which this control is achieved.
